Every Victorian child deserves access to a great school that prepares them to thrive in the 21st century. The Victorian School Building Authority manages the $4 billion education construction boom that is creating 100 new schools across Victoria.
I visited a number of schools throughout Victoria, interviewing Premier Daniel Andrews, Deputy Premier James and Merlino and countless teachers, students and principals.
South Melbourne Primary School
South Melbourne Primary School is a new state-of-the-art Prep to Year 6 primary school located in the heart of Melbourne. Architects have created space and facilities that the community can share so that the school is fully embedded in neighbourhood life.
South Melbourne Primary School is the first vertical government school in Victoria, and will accommodate more than 525 students.
Having previously won ‘Future Project of the Year’ at the 2016 World Architecture Festival Awards held in Berlin, the school went on to pick up the Ministerial Commendation for the Best Example of Inclusive Design at the 2018 Victorian School Design Awards
Tech Schools
In my day, tech schools were places you made acrylic photo frames or wood ashtrays. Today, Tech Schools emphasise the vital science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills needed for the 21st century.
$128 million has been allocated to the Tech Schools initiative for the construction and establishment of 10 Tech Schools across Victoria.
It enhances the programs schools provide, and helps prepare students for the jobs of the future.
